On Sunday 20 November, the third & final round of the Nelson Mountain Bike Club Cross Country Series was held in windy but fine conditions encompassing most of the Codgers area trails. This race was a single lap event, with 3 climbs to the top of Sharland hill and a 4th for the U19, senior & vet 1 men. Throw in some of the more fun down hills in Nelson and the 60 riders who raced were given to ride the best cross country course for a number of years by designer Andrew Scott. Tom Filmer despite having raced the previous day in the Benchmark road series still had plenty of fuel in the tank to take out the overall win in 1hr 34mins. Ethan Glover returning to Nelson for the summer showed some fine form to take the senior men title and 2nd overall. Ethan was chased hard by Vet 1 winner Dean Fulton who was the 3rd rider home. Ingrid Richter the first woman to cross the line in an impressive 1hr 27mins was followed home by Vet 1 class winner Anja McDonald 4 mins later. Henry Jaine showed he is a rider who may well prove a future champion by shadowing Tom Filmer by only 2 mins to win the U17 class. Vet Men 2 & 3 were again the largest categories with some very classy times by the "old boys". Jake Stow continued his complete domination of V2 coming in first in 1hr 13mins and Derek Milne rounding of his series win with a first place in 1hr 24mins Vet 4 men & women were won by Alan & Liz Eskrick who both show some fine technical skills on the downhill sections complemented by strong legs on the climbs.
