Strategic Plan
26 April 2007 Dear Member, Below is the Strategic Plan your committee has developed for the future of our Club. Much thought has gone into this document to ensure the ongoing enjoyment and success of our sport in our region. It's an achievable plan. A point of focus. The challenge has always been to meet the needs of a diverse range of riding styles and preferences within both Cross Country and DownHill. For example: finding the right balance of circuit vs A to B races; competition vs recreational; beginner vs intermediate vs technical trails. There exists a myriad of possibilities and opinions within MTB and even the casual observer can see a rapidly evolving sport. Lateral changes are being experienced both at club and national level, however the underlying theme is that we all seem to want the same experience √ FUN ON A BIKE. Right up to the present committee, we have made enormous inroads with our strategic partners in MTB √ the land owners. Whether they be local government, forestry companies or private owners our sport is on a wave of popularity as it is recognised as being challenging, exciting and beneficial to health and wellbeing (except when we fail to keep the shiny side up!). Access still brings huge challenges, which is a major undertaking your committee works on constantly and there are some very exciting developments on the horizon. As you read the Strategic Plan, take time to consider what your involvement could be in it. This is not a call to join the committee, rather a call to how you can assist the committee. Some past committees have been burnt-out and good people lost by loading them up with too much responsibility. We really want to keep this present committee together for a while as it possesses some very talented people. The primary purpose of our committee is to manage, strategise and make decisions. Organising and manning races, marking out trails, maintaining trails or building new ones etc. is where the members come into the picture. If you see an event coming up, contact one of the committee to volunteer your help. If we call for volunteers, volunteer. You don't have to be one of the "in" group or hard-core riders, just an ordinary member who loves riding MTB. I can promise you MTB volunteering is very rewarding and not onerous. I can also promise you≠ll get back more than you put in. Got a great event/ride idea? Tell us and if it's a goer we'll back you. EMMETT MILLS President Nelson Mountain Bike Club 027 2468 253 P.S.
