R and R Rush Track

RandR Map:

This is a flowing X-Country track for experienced riders

This ride can be combined with other rides in the area, and is being given here as a "Section" of what could be any number of combinations in the area.

To get to the "R&R Rush" track, ride out from Nelson up the Maitai Valley road until you get to the turn off to the Hira Forest which is the start of central and Sharlands roads.

Turn off from the Maitai Road  (S41 16.552  E173 19.733)

From here travel up the road a short distance until you come to the turn off to Sharlands Road.

Start of Sharlands road  (S41 16.408  E173 20.069)

Turn left into Sharlands Rd and cross the concrete ford. From here it is a 8.2km moderate uphill ride to summit of the road at the intersection with Thomas Rd

Thomas Rd Turnoff   (S41 14.895  E173 20.099)
Turn left here into Thomas Rd and ride about 200m to just past where Savage Rd goes off to the right. On your left at the start of the trees you will see a trail dropping off from the road. This is the start of the track

Waypoint 1 on map: Start of track  (S41 15.025  E173 21.887)
The track follows just below the road for a while, then starts to follow a stream down the valley. There are a couple of small uphill bits and a couple of switchbacks, one of which is quite sharp and may require a dismount. Other than that this track is a good challenging X-Country with a lot of variety. There is a turn off to the left to the quarry at the start of the upper Bob's Fern Road turnoff. Waypoint 2 on map:  (S41 14.597  E173 21.287)
Going straight ahead, the track continues to undulate around the hill before another fork. The right fork takes you down through a logged area to Bob's Fern. The left fork follows a series of sweeping bermed corners to exit part way up Bob's Fern Road. There is quite a wet section at present (Nov 2009) immediately before dropping on to the road.
From here you can ride up Bob's Fern Road and do the other Tuckers trails.
