Involution Track Marsden Valley
This is a 2 way track but can also be reached from the Barnicoat 4wd road if the uphill switchbacks are too daunting.
Ride up Marsden Valley to just before the quarry gate. Cross gate at the other end of the small bridge and follow the 4WD track up the valley, keeping to the left at the fork. After about 10 minutes of steady climbing the entrance to the single track heads off to the left into the bush. The track climbs steadily in a series of switchbacks, which can all be ridden by fit riders even in wet conditions. Eventually the track heads more to the right crossing a couple of small creeks before entering more switchbacks to gain a small spur which it winds up to meet the Barnicoat to Jenkins Hill 4wd road. Takes an hour to an hour and a half to ride up.
For an easier ascent take the right fork shown in the second photo below and follow up Glider Road on to the Barnicoat Range. Where the road flattens on the crest of the hill follow it around until it turns sharp right, climbing steeply to a gate on the ridge top. Cross the gate or ride around the gap in the fence, head left along the 4WD road down and up a big dip. After about 15 mins along the ridge, mostly climbing, you come to the sign marking the top of Involution.
Head back down switchback heaven or turn left and take the track to Jenkins Hill and Third House for a longer more challenging ride.
