Despite the damp and muddy conditions there were plenty of smiles at the end of today's 6 Hour Mid-winter Breakout at Rabbit Island. 340 riders took part in the event and 123 teams were on the start line. Hats off to Emmett Mills for organising the event and to all the helpers, especially Dennis Bartlett and Diane Marshall who recorded all 1211 lap times. Joel MacMillan was first solo man by 1 lap and 3 minutes ahead of Tom Ashley. The solo women's title was a close battle between Claire Thurlow and Liz Rogers, with Claire winning out by only 2 minutes. Village Cycles men's team of Sean Hambrook, Tom Filmer, Layton Murdoch and Daniel Ellison were first by 23 minutes ahead of R+R Sport. Susie Wood and Eloise Fry were clear winners of the women's grade despite Eloise taking time out to attend to an injured rider whilst Golden Bay Glass showed class in the mixed grade 10 minutes ahead of Mike an' Hotties. Fastest lap time was set by Dean Fulton in 21m26s only 1 second ahead of Murray Sheridan and 8 seconds ahead of Sean Hambrook.
